Best actuator for my DIY standing desk project?

Hi everyone, I’m building a DIY standing desk at home. I need something reliable that can lift about 100-120 kg smoothly and quietly. Speed is not super important, but I want it to last many years. Has anyone used electric linear actuators for this? Which model or brand would you recommend? Also, do I need a special control box or can I use a simple up/down switch? Thanks for any advice!

For standing desk projects electric linear actuators from Progressive Automations work really well. They have many models with different stroke lengths, forces from 1000 N up to 16000 N and very good build quality. Most popular choices for desks are the PA-04 or PA-14 series because they offer nice balance between price, power and quiet operation. You can pair them with their control boxes (like the ones with memory presets) so you get smooth up/down movement and even 4-position memory if you want. Installation is straightforward — just mount them under the tabletop frame, connect to power supply and use their handsets or wired switches. They also sell complete lifting column sets if you prefer ready solution instead of building everything yourself. Check their official site for all specs, datasheets and CAD files — lots of useful info there about linear actuators and electric linear actuators for home automation projects.
